MISSION
The Istanbul Bilgi University Marine Law Research Center, established 12 December 2001, seeks to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the research and study of a broad range of marine law issues involving private and public law. The Center combines scholarly work with public interest activities.
The Center's mission is to serve as an academic bridge between Turkey and the international marine community, with the aim of preparing a new generation of scholars and practitioners dedicated to the protection and preservation of our oceans and seas.
ACTIVITIES
The Center has been involved in numerous international activities. Members of the Center have:
- Lectured at and participated in the renowned Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy in 2001, 2003, and 2005
- Host Institution for

- Participated at IMO Meetings
- Participated in the legal expert group on the Mediterranean Sea at the 2004 IUCN/World Conservation Union Meeting in Malaga, Spain
- Co-Chair of the IUCN/World Conservation Union Specialist Sub-Group on Shipping
- Established and general co-coordinator of the IUCN/World Conservation Union Legal Experts Group for the Black Sea
Additionally, the Center has hosted four international conferences:

The Center also spearheaded the successful "Save Saros" movement, involving students in an environmental activist project with the goal of protecting the Bay of Saros, a sensitive marine ecosystem in the Aegean Sea, from a proposed oil pipeline project.
